Tawny Frogmouth

The Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) is native to Australia. It takes its name from the large frog-like gape of its mouth.  Frogmouths are able to use their silver grey streaked and mottled plumage to camouflage themselves by perching motionless,  eyes closed, feathers compacted and beak upraised near the trunk of a tree, looking like a dead branch.
